We are currently living in unprecedented times. The Covid-19 virus is affecting everyone around the world. We are in this together, including the dance industry. The dancers’ and their dance teachers’ lives are changing rapidly, with many dance schools having closed, and competitions and performances either cancelled or postponed.

There is good news, dance schools, dancers and dance companies have reached out to their communities and are offering online classes, training tips and access to live performances.Use this time to maintain your dance training, perfect your technique, improve your cardio fitness, learn and be inspired by some of the best in the business. 

With so many exciting offerings available, we have put together a guide for what’s available online for dancers.

Dance Classes

 

          - Ballet

Claudia Dean Coaching - Claudia Dean is a former dancer of The Royal Ballet. She runs a private ballet coaching business and has a great YouTubevlog.

Browse through 70+ Claudia's videos and you will definitely find exercises to add to your bookmarks to work on them later. Claudia has just launched freeonline ballet classes which includes stretching and Q&A at claudiadeanworld.live Follow her on IG as she gives global class times

Kathryn Morgan (@kathryn_morgan) is a former soloist with the New York City Ballet and her YouTube channel has over 300+ videos covering tips, full barre classes of different levels, ballet technique, variations, workouts, targeted exercises and beauty. All of her YouTube videos are free.

Aussie dance physiotherapist, Lisa Howell (@lisa_howells) from the @balletblogofficial focuses on the treatment and education of dancers.  Her YouTube channel is a full and comprehensive encyclopedia of any issues, problems, injuries a dancer may face, and the ways of their treatment and prevention. She has just put together a free guide for dancers to create their own online training at home program

Principal dancer at American Ballet Theatre, @isabellaboylston is conducting fun ballet classes on Instagram #theCindiesBalletClass

Ballet classes for younger children – many studios are conducting ballet classes online for their own students. Ask your studio what their plans are.

Matthew Prescott  from @jofferyschool is conducting  LIVE Jazz and Musical Theatre classes. Check for times and classes as he is based in NYC.

          - Contemporary

Sydney Dance Company (SDC) are launching online contemporary classes starting w/c 23rd March 2020. Check their website for updates and costs.

Dance Fitness

Innovative Aussie, Louisa Paterson, former Principal with the prestigious Friedrichstadt Palast in Berlin, founded @trainlikeaballerina to help

Her YouTube channel is a comprehensive library of free cardio and strength workouts, stretching tips and one of our favourites, warm up routines.

The Australian Ballet

Plans to provide a host of online content that showcases the artistry of The Australian Ballet. They have a wealth of high-quality production recordings that they are looking to present via various web and social media platforms to keep their audiences engaged in the absence of live performances. 

The Finnish National Opera and Ballet

Ooppera Baletti has launched Stage 24 where you can watch and listen to ballet and opera performances whenever you want.
